Title: The Son of Light Book 2: The M.B.S. Guild
Author: Chris Parker
Despite having the worst birthday in his life, sixteen year old Joshua Suzuki finally gets his birthday wish—to get out of his house in Porter Ranch, California, which he had spent a decade locked up in. But his wish would be an unusual one because he soon finds himself in an underground college, which belonged to secret organization, called the M.B.S. (Mind, Body, and Soul) Guild. This blows Josh’s mind. And what shocks him even more is that his twenty-six year old foster brother, Nickolas Suzuki, is the leader of the M.B.S. Guild.
Nick wastes no time in telling Josh the horrible truth to why they’ve been in hiding for ten years — The Demon Lord, Hexen, has returned. Nick puts Josh in the protection of his crazy college friends to train him in the art of energy, as Nick travels around the world for clues about Lord Hexen’s origins.
But after being lured out of the guild, Josh find himself in the outside world again, a world far more dangerous than the last time. Now, Josh has to find his way back to the guild while dealing with violent bandits, crazed zombie-like people, and worst of all, Lord Hexen. Can Josh survive?
The Son of Light Book 2: The M.B.S. Guild is an adult fantasy novel that features fast-paced action, and side-splitting comedy. If you like the Harry Potter and A Game of Thrones novels, then you like The Son of Light book 2.
Chris Parker started writing during his community college years until he transferred to a film school, Columbia College Hollywood, after losing his house in 2008. There he came up with many stories such as, The Son of Light. However, he went to school to become an editor. After earning his BA, Chris went back to his first love, writing.
**And now, it’s time for our EXCLUSIVE AUTHOR INTERVIEW with Chris Parker!**
CKB: Was The Son of Light inspired by any books you read as a child, or recently before writing it?
Chris: No. The idea came from the short films I made while in film school.
CKB: Did the recession and what you went through in 2008 influence your writing and/or your career path as an author?
Chris: Well, it was because of the recession that I moved from Riverside to the Valley to pursue my dreams of being a filmmaker. So in a ironic way, I’m glad the 2008 crash happened, but only for that reason. What pushed me to become an author was the fact that I hate Hollywood now.
CKB: Which do you enjoy more: writing or editing?
Chris: Honestly, I like both. But as of right now, I like writing more. Editing is like solving a hard puzzle for me while writing is like jumping into another world that I can escape to.
CKB: Has anything you learned or worked on in film school affected how you write or what you write about?
Chris: Yeah! How not to write sh*tty scenes and dialogue. Ha! Ha! Trust me, I made a lot of mistakes during my time in film school. But at least I know how to set up a story. Now, I’m better at creating real characters and a strong plot.
CKB: Why did you choose to write fantasy?
Chris: That’s all I’ve been interested in. I suppose I could write something else…maybe. As a kid, I watched all kinds of cartoons and played all kinds of fantasy video games. So fantasy is just in my blood.
CKB: How many more books do you have planned for The Son of Light series?
Chris: In total there are 8 books in the series, but I have other books such as, The Son of Light Book 2.1: The Fierce Fellowship Games, which is out now. So, I have about 6 or so more books left to write. Book 3 is in progress now as is Book 3.1. I will admit that I’m glad it’s taken me from 2009 to now to write these books. I’ve learned so much.
Thanks, Chris! We really enjoyed your answers! Best of luck with the series!
